My see-saw tipped and stayed one side

I still forget sometimes the importance of ensuring that ‘equilibrium’ is given a special place in my life. I am comforted by the fact that, as regular as a ‘heart beat’ our subconscious equilibrium or life pendulum swings away in the back ground regulating lifes necessities of having balance in our everyday existence. Too much of one thing leads to less of another and so backwards and forwards the see-saw swings balancing life, balancing me!

My recent experience of ‘balance’ ……. is about, mind, body and spirit. So we need to achieve balance in all of these areas and not just in one. Too much exercise with our bodies and not enough time spent on our spiritual awareness and development, may start an imbalance, mentally and then physically. Understanding these parameters we need to be able to be in the moment and be present. Happy with just ‘being’.

So understanding this a little? and it’s importance is one thing but putting it into effect is another.

Pushing in one area and striving to succeed in ambition and success should be a good thing …. correct? This shows dedication of our spiritual goals and strengths as a person. But doing this with no ‘balance’ no ‘equilibrium’ and totally pushing one way, the see-saw will tip and my see-saw did tip!

Ego heavy on oneside, energised and focused on achieving these goals, allowing my ‘ego’ to push me on. ‘Ego’ my personal cheer leader, shouting my praises, my personal trainer whispering in my ear “keep going” and “push harder” of course it’s going to tip.

So there I was, fitness at it’s best, enjoying the agility obstacle floats at the water park and I had the sudden realisation that it did not matter how fit I was to keep falling off the floats and into the water, praising myself having the strength that I had to keep climbing back on, time and time again. I realised it’s not the strength I needed but a peaceful, quiet and focused mind, to evenly distribute the weight slowly across the floats. The key to staying on the float was balance! The key was not to fall out of life but keep on!

So here I am, a potter working on my pottery wheel, centering a ball of clay, firstly clearing my mind, grounding myself and delivering weight from my arms through to my hands evenly, ensuring a balanced utensil of clay is designed. This is not achieved through strength but from balance and a peaceful, quiet mind.

There are no wrong roads, just ‘roads’ layed out in front of you awaiting each step. All journeys are the right journeys moving forward but recognising the importance to include balance into our lives and respecting it with utmost love is the key to our positive well being.

I wanted to share with you a particular lesson I experienced recently on my journey, so I decided to write the above and add this to my blog. Though having completed it, I decided not to post it because the message that I was trying to share with you did not feel complete and I felt that there was something missing.

So many weeks later, I awoke in the middle of the night and started to write this missing piece of the message, in fact the main point of this whole posting.

Imbalance!! the see-saw is going to tip and the scales will drop on one side regularly because this is what life is all about and it’s the living and the exploring of the unknown with it’s new awaiting experiences that knocks everything out of balance. It is for us as individuals to seek within ourselves ‘our’ balance whilst exploring every next twist and turn in the beautiful journey of life!

Truthfulness

Being true to yourself!

This is a commission for a customer and whilst it progessed into a design, the customer and I became good friends.

Time was not an issue, the subject and design was completely in my hands.

The road that I was on with clear views ahead took a sudden diversion off and the journey decided to go on to another path. I lost my way for awhile and was unclear of it’s future but with the love of the universal light and it’s clear messages through meditation, the final design was completed, with all of it’s lessons to be learned.

The journey…….

Hamsa or The Hand of Fatima is often recognised as a symbol of protection and to ward off negative energy. It is also believed to promote healing and facilitate miracles.

I am a ‘light worker’, ‘healer’ and in a time of unrest, uncertainty; Love, prayer, healing and miracles shine the brightest, purest light. Devika x

Hamsa is also known as 5, this for me depicts ancient geometry; The Pentagon and The Pentagram, life it’s self symbolised in mathematics.

The symbol of the hand resonates for me; femininity, protection, strength, peace and most of all love.

‘Love’ being the strongest element of energy and will prevail and dissolve all doubts and fears. It’s infinitive and abundant. It is in every cell, intangible and tangible. It’s the strongest source of energy to mankind and life it’s self.

The eye I have made from dichroic glass. It’s placed in the center of the hand and resonates here with different coloured light depicting the transparency of the universe and it’s open accessibility to everyone and everything. It’s centered here in the heart of the ‘Tree of Life’, connecting earth with divine light and how both are relevant to each other and it’s essentiality.

The tree of life accepts nourishment from mother earth and it’s branches reach up high into the sky accepting energy from the sun, moon and universe. The energy then reflected back down into the earth and then it’s roots. Recycling negativity energy, replenishing positive energy, giving healing and fertility.

Five fingers; hand mudra

Thumb: Fire element; solar plexus chakra; yellow

Forefinger: Air element; heart chakra; green

Middle finger: Ethereal element; throat chakra; blue

Ring finger: Earth element; root chakra; red

Little finger: water element; sacral chakra; orange

All of the above used in different methodology of wellbeing to promote peace, healing and positive energy.

The triangles in the roots of the trees, symbolise pyramids providing strength and new life. The dots symbolise infinity.

The project included crystal glazes, green and blue, representing ‘Love and Life’ and the circle of handmade tiles ‘the universe’. x

“Pottery isn’t a hobby, it is an addiction of touch to the clay!”

To all the potters all over the world; “high five! you’ve got this”

A positive affirmation that I remind myself of everyday.

El Toro

Maybe, I am correct in thinking that pottery is one of the oldest forms of craft skills dating back thousands of years ‘actually 20,000!’. And it’s also probable that it is one of the most experienced techniques made by man at some point, practiced all over the world and continued to this present day.

My love of clay and creating pottery started 17 years ago in the beautiful county of Staffordshire, in Stoke-on-trent. A few weeks on a pottery course and I became a potter!

Or so I thought……….

The beauty of clay and of course lots of different clays, is that even after 20,000 plus years the skill of controlling the clay through all of it’s different processes, is still never quite achieved, everytime or everyday. This is the daily challenge of a potter!

A gift that the earth gives us, a material strong and durable to use, to assist us in keeping our food safe and the additional added gift of the mental challenge to see each design through to the end of it’s successful fruition.

Perhaps, the word ‘pottery’ came from the word ‘potty’ and I believe that ‘Potty Potter’ is a word that could best describe most potters or at least at some point in their pottery journey.

Slab clay

17 years later…….. and hundreds of thousands of hours with my hands in wet clay, sculpting and suddenly the clay starts to become compliant and is submissive to it’s master.

Therefore, I wanted to share with you a design that I enjoy sculpting and it is not without it’s fair share of challenges but to it’s end is enjoyed by myself and most of all many of my customers.

Without using molds and every design a one-off, being created by hand for each customer; completely bespoke. Here is El Toro.

‘May the force be with you’ a quote that is familiar to most of us who remember the 80s and the reminder of the desperate need to make a homemade ‘lightsaber’……..

Is there some other force or vibration out there amongst the stars and the numerous billions of galaxies? Why are we so interested in this phenomenon and why do we hold on to a glimpse or whisper of the very notion that there just might be!

Interested in this subject? ‘yes I am’ and that made this a very easy commission to paint for a customer who is also interested in this very subject.

I started painting the foundation of the tile in black and sapphire blue glaze and probably more blue than black allowing the light to travel through the glass, enabling the piece of wall art to change it’s energy and mood depending on the time of day and use of artificial or natural lighting.

Then I started to introduce the characters using the white glaze on top of the dark consuming glazes, encouraging the light paint to be absorbed and give the effect of something not quite solid. More solid black glaze was added to the areas above the heads giving the appearance of solid darkness in space and to the eye socket area also.

Finally, I added Botz ‘mirror glaze’ which is as it says ‘reflective’ containing a silver metal and this gave the composition an extra depth of lighting.

Additionally in the design a small inscription of ‘may the force be with you’ has been included in the painting, a message for the recipient to enjoy.

I have included a few extra ‘work-in-progress’ stage photos for your curiosity.

Hope you enjoyed this process and subject.

Love & light, Debbie x
